O consumo da dor do outro e a mobilização afetiva: imagem evenemencial e mediação de alteridade em “Fogo no Mar”

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the mobilizing potential of pain images in audiovisual narratives, taking them as instruments of alterity mediation that allow its comprehension through realistic, affective and testimonial strategies. To this end, we use the notion of evenemential image to discuss how images are, at the same time, the confirmation of materiality, a testimony of experience and a domestication discourse about the other. Our conceptual anchorage takes place in language studies and in authors who reflect on the rhetoric of images. For practical purposes, we analyzed "Fire at Sea" (Fuocoammare, Gianfranco Rosi, 2016), a documentary that addresses the refugee crisis on the island of Lampedusa, Italy, and identified evenemential strategies in the way pain images are displayed-reiterating the idea that its consumption, in the context of geopolitical maladjustments, suggests the possibility of using shock as an instrument of affective mobilization.
