O tratamento odontológico como gerador de ansiedade

Abstract

RESUMO.A situação de tratamento odontológico é potencialmente ansiogênica para todos os envolvidos. Do ponto de vista do paciente, aspectos clínicos -em especial os invasivos, tais como a injeção da anestesia -e aspectos relacionados aos comportamentos do profissional podem gerar ansiedade e respostas de esquiva ao tratamento. Para o cirurgião-dentista, a necessidade de lidar com a ansiedade do paciente, que requer, muitas vezes, estratégias diferenciadas de manejo do comportamento, além de toda a exigência pela perfeição técnica e atualização de conhecimentos clínicos, pode tornar estressante sua rotina de trabalho. A situação se agrava na medida em que a formação do profissional de odontologia seja deficiente na aquisição de conhecimentos teóricos e práticos sobre a relação profissional-paciente e estratégias de manejo de comportamentos.Palavras-chave: relação profissional-paciente, medo de dentista, ansiedade. DENTAL TREATMENT AS A CAUSE OF ANXIETYABSTRACT. Dental treatment causes anxiety in patients and professionals. In the case of patients, the clinical aspects, mainly invasive factors, such as local anesthesia, and, in the case of professionals, their behavior may produce anxiety with their evasive answers. The need to deal with the patient's anxiety requires complex procedures of the dentists. Coupled to the dentist's own anxiety for technical preciseness and permanent clinical knowledge acquisitions, the dentist's routine turns into a physically and emotionally stressing procedure. Such a situation may worsen when the professional training of the dentist is somewhat deficient in knowledge acquisition on the doctor-patient relationship and in behavior management techniques.Key words: Professional-patient relationships, dental fear, anxiety. Para el cirujano dentista, la necesidad de lidiar con la ansiedad del paciente, que requiere, muchas veces, estrategias diferenciadas de manejo del comportamiento, además de toda exigencia por la perfección técnica y actualización de conocimientos clínicos, pueden volver estresante su rutina de trabajo.
