Observation of 1.5μm photoluminescence and electroluminescence from a holmium organic complex

Abstract: Electroluminescence (EL) and photoluminescence in both the visible and near-infrared spectral range were observed from a holmium(dibenzoylmethanato)3(bathophenanthroline) [Ho(DBM)3bath]. Five peaks at 580nm, 660nm, 980nm, 1200nm, and 1500nm, respectively, were attributed to the internal 4f electronical transitions of the Ho3+ ions. Except for the emissions of the Ho3+ ions, a broadband exciplex emission from 480nmto670nm appeared in the EL cases. The emission intensity of the exciplex at organic interface show… Show more

“…[21] Nevertheless, it is still noteworthy that white-light emission is realized by the single-component multicarboxylic acid derivative Dy F 5 -5 I 6 for the Ho 3 + ion, respectively. [22] The NIR emission spectrum of complex 4 (Figure 4a,p ink spectrum) exhibits an arrow band at 980 nm, which is assigned to the f-f transitions of . [23] To the best of our knowledge, NIR spectra of Er 3 + complexes exhibiting only two peaks around 950 nm and 1240 nm were seldom reported.…”

“…Yet, the development and exploitation of the NIR luminescent Ho and Pr complexes [13,14] lag a way behind those of the lanthanide ions mentioned above. Herein, we report the syntheses, crystal structures and the NIR luminescent properties of a series of b-diketone 3 L] [where dbm = dibenzoylmethane; L = 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), 2,2 0 -bipyridine (bipy), or triphenyl phosphate oxide (TPPO)] with dbm as the primary ligand and phen, bipy, TPPO as the synergic ligands, respectively.…”

“…Some organolanthanides have shown electroluminescence in the near-infrared range. [10][11][12][13][14][15][16] Among the different erbium organic compounds analyzed in literature, 7,[17][18][19] erbium tris͑8-hydroxyquinoline͒ ͑ErQ 3 ͒ is the most interesting organic infrared emitter because it has shown the highest photoluminescence [20][21][22] and electroluminescence [23][24][25] intensities centered at 1525 nm; this corresponds to the low loss third window wavelength range used in standard optical communications. ErQ 3 is a small molecule; for this reason, organic light emitting diodes based on such a compound can be manufactured using vacuum processing techniques, such as thermal evaporation.…”
