Observation of soft X-ray Cherenkov radiation in Al

Abstract: A: Currently, most of the Cherenkov phenomenon researches for the X-ray region are theoretical studies; there are only a few experiments in this area. Here the new experimental results on observation of X-ray Cherenkov radiation generated by 5.7 MeV electrons in the thin Be and Si foils are presented. The Cherenkov effect from Be was observed for the first time. The experimental results are compared with the calculations performed according to the theoretical model of transition radiation taking into account t… Show more

“…The maximum values on the curves correspond to the XCR photon energy. For a target that generates only transition radiation, for example, for a Mylar film [20], no maximum should be observed. The experiment was carried out on a 5.7 MeV electron beam extracted from the M-5 microtron of the Tomsk Polytechnic University [26].…”

“…The above-mentioned discrepancies of some experimental results with the theory and the fewness of experimental studies are the motive to new experimental studies of XCR, for example, to take the test on ability the other substances to generate the XCR. So recently we have demonstrated the observation of XCR near the L-edge of Al which was generated by 5.7 MeV electrons [20].…”

“…The measured spectral line width is an experimental evidence of the separately observed PXR and DTR contributions, since the width of the PXR spectral line should be several times narrower than that of the DTR (figures 4 and 5). The DTR and PXR spectra can be studied using another multilayer structure as a spectrometer [13][14][15][16]. The width of the spectral line can be found experimentally by measuring the width of the rocking curve -the dependence of the radiation output on the tilt angle of the multilayer structure.…”

“…In the soft X-ray spectral range, ChR was certainly detected for target materials such as vanadium, titanium, beryllium, aluminum, and silicon [3,4,19,20], while for other materials, more detailed experimental studies are required. Therefore, in this study, we selected one of these materials to calculate the characteristics of hybrid radiation.…”
