“…Severe infestation of A. foliaceus, up to 800-1000 lice were reported from pond reared Cyprinus carpio in Turkey (Pekmezci et al, 2011). Our study corroborates with Kruger and Van-As (1983) where they described A. japonicus with 90% prevalence in different fish species of western Transvaal, South Africa. A. japonicus become potential threat to the wild and cultured fishes of UK and authorities were suggested for the careful examination of ornamental fishes before entry to the UK environment (Rushton-Mellor, 1992).…”

“…This paper follows previous reports on introduced and invasive parasites in the Vaal River; Argulus japonicus Thiele, 1900 (Crustacea: Branchiura), Schyzocotyle acheilognathi (Yamaguti, 1934) (Cestoda) (syn Bothriocephalus acheilognathi ) and Atractolycestus huronensis Anthony, 1958 (Cestoda) (Brandt et al, 1981; Dos Santos & Avenant‐Oldewage, 2022; Kruger et al, 1983, respectively the order is not correct it should be Kruger then Brandt and then Dos Santos to match the mening of respectively in the last sentence ). The addition of N. japonicus to this club of recent immigrants may signal unreported/illegal introduction/s of aquatic organisms.…”

“…The presence of G. sprostonae on L. aeneus in the Vaal River system is suspected to be a recent introduction as it was not reported in previous monogenean surveys (Crafford et al 2012; 2014a & b) conducted in this system. Furthermore, L. aeneus has been reported to host other invasive parasites, namely Schyzocotyle acheilognathi (Yamaguti, 1934) (Bertasso & Avenant-Oldewage 2005; Stadtlander et al 2011), Atractolytocestus huronesis Anthony, 1958 (Dos Santos & Avenant-Oldewage 2022) and Argulus japonicus Thiele, 1900 (Kruger et al 1983; Tam & Avenant-Oldewage 2006; Van As & Basson 1984;). The infection of L. aeneus with A. huronensis has also only recently been recorded, supporting Dos Santos & Avenant-Oldewage (2022) who speculated that a recent introduction of carp to the Vaal River system may have taken place.…”
