International audienceThe Free Core Nutation (FCN) is investigated with the help of its resonance effect on the tidal amplitudes in Superconducting Gravimeter (SG) records of the GGP network. The FCN resonance parameters are combined in a resonance equation involving the Earth's interior parameters. The sensitivity of the FCN parameters to the diurnal tidal waves demonstrates that the quality factor of the FCN is strongly dependent on the accuracy of the imaginary part estimates of the gravimetric factors close to the resonance. The weak amplitude of \Psi1 tidal wave on the Earth, which is the closest in frequency to the FCN, in addition to errors in ocean loading correction, explains the poor determination of the quality factor Q from surface gravimetric data. The inversion of tidal gravimetric factors leads to estimates of the period, Q and resonance strength of the FCN. We show that, by inverting log(Q) instead of Q, the results using the least-squares method optimized using the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm are in agreement with the Bayesian probabilistic results and agree with the results obtained from VLBI nutation data. Abstact.Three gravity field models, parameterized in terms of spherical harmonic coefficients, have been computed from 71 days of GOCE (Gravity field and steady-state Ocean Circulation Explorer) orbit and gradiometer data by applying independent gravity field processing methods. These gravity models are one major output of the European Space Agency (ESA) project GOCE High-Level Processing Facility (HPF). The processing philosophies and architectures of these three complementary methods are presented and discussed, emphasizing the specific features of the three approaches. The resulting GOCE gravity field models, representing the first models containing the novel measurement type of gravity gradiometry ever computed, are analyzed and assessed in detail. Together with the coefficient estimates, full variance-covariance matrices provide error information about the coefficient solutions. A comparison with state-of-the-art GRACE and combined gravity field models reveals the additional contribution of GOCE based on only 71 days of data. Compared to combined gravity field models, large deviations appear in regions where the terrestrial gravity data are known to be of low accuracy. The GOCE performance, assessed against the GRACE-only model ITGGrace2010s, becomes superior at degree 150, and beyond. GOCE provides significant additional information of the global Earth gravity field, with an accuracy of the 2-months GOCE gravity field models of 10 cm in terms of geoid heights, and 3 mGal in terms of gravity anomalies, globally at a resolution of 100 km (degree/order 200).

Precise positioning using the signals of the Global Position System requires correcting the distance between the points of reception of the signal carrier phase and the antenna reference point. Sophisticated models to account for these phase errors are available and widely in use. These models are usually based on calibrations of several antennas of the same type to derive a mean model. There is also the possibility of applying individual correction models that are derived for one single antenna, since the individual antennas may still vary by a few millimeters. We prepared two sets of station position time series to understand the impact of using type mean or individual antenna correction models. At first, we estimated the station positions using the type mean model for the antenna corrections as it is provided by the IGS. Second, the same processing strategy was used, but this time with individual antenna correction models provided they were available. Then, based on these two solutions, we evaluated how different antenna corrections impact the network alignment and subsequently station coordinates. We showed that mixing two sources of antenna phase center corrections may influence the reference frame realization. However, this impact is very small and can be reduced by an appropriate selection of reference stations. Finally, we demonstrated that for some antennas, the application of type mean or individual antenna calibration models may cause a discrepancy in the position of over 10 mm for the horizontal and vertical component. However, for most of the antennas these offsets are below 2 mm for horizontal components and below 4 mm for vertical component. Thereby, for common antennas we confirmed the results obtained by others.
