OC-080 Ibd-Sshamp (Supported, Self help and Management Programme); UK’S first Internet based Remote Management System for Managing Stable IBD

Abstract: Introduction Due to the different presentations of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, several clinical severity indices were used in the past. Interestingly, most (if not all) of these indices were not properly validated and did not go through a robust methodology. Our aim is to develop a new clinical disease severity index that valid, easy obtainable in the clinic and suitable to all IBD patients. Methods The development of Swansea IBD clinical severity index (SICSI) followed a clinimetric approach. It… Show more

“…described an integrated distance-management model of care for IBD patients, IBD-SSHAMP, at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital in Hertfordshire, UK. 11,12 This model provides patients with self-help advice sheets and hospital results that can be graphically displayed on the website. Furthermore, patients are routinely consulted via a telephone clinic, and faecal calprotectin and blood tests are carried out biannually.…”

“…Moreover, the burden and healthcare costs associated with its management continue to rise [6,7], which currently makes it one of the most expensive gastrointestinal conditions [8]. In an attempt to overcome these problems, web-based telemonitoring systems have been safe and feasible tools that empower IBD patients with the capacity to better control their disease, producing fewer outpatient visits, hospital admissions and, thus, potential cost-savings [9][10][11].…”

“…Web-based telemonitoring systems applied to IBD are safe and feasible not only for adults but also for adolescents [9-11], and empowerment through these systems reduces outpatient visits and hospital admissions, with potential cost savings [12-14]. However, even if eHealth is considered a promising option to improve the quality of care while reducing costs, its efficacy in terms of disease outcomes has not been consistent across studies [10-13,15,16], with high attrition rates despite the continued adaptation of Web platforms and the evolution of mobile health over the last decade.…”
