(OC-6-14)-(7-Azaindole)dichloro(ethoxo)oxo(triphenylphosphine)rhenium(V)

Abstract: The compound consists of [ReCI20(CzHsO)(C7H6-N2){P(C6Hs)3}] monomers in which the Re v centre has slightly distorted octahedral coordination. The azaindole (1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine) and the phosphine ligands occupy trans positions, whereas the perpendicular ReClzO(OR) plane contains a trans O==Re---OR unit. Azaindole forms a bifurcated intramolecular hydrogen bond with the oxo group and a CI atom. Comment

“…In compound 5 the Re-N and Re-P bond lengths of 2.219(5) and of 2.432(1) Å, respectively, compare well with those of 2.185 (7) ReO(OEt)Cl 2 (PPh 3 )(7-azaindole) complex. 15 The former distance is affected by the trans influence of the phosphine and is therefore longer than the Re-N distances detected in 3 (2.10(2), and 2.15(2) Å) and in ReO(OEt)Cl 2 (py) 2 (2.144(7) and 2.132(7) Å), 6 where the N-bases are trans to each other. The values of the bond angle at the oxygen atom in the ethoxy group (150(1)Њ in 3 and 146.1(6)Њ in 5) are close to those detected in other complexes containing the same ligand.…”

“…Some authors suggested that a partial multiple character for the Re-O bond may account for this unusual large value, although steric requirements are not to be excluded. 6, 15 Treatment of mer-ReCl 3 O(Me 2 S)(OPPh 3 ) with a large excess of pyz in refluxing methanol/water led to the isolation of the dioxo complex [trans-ReO 2 (pyz) 4 ]Cl 6 (Scheme 1); a similar procedure, using ReOCl 3 (PPh 3 ) 2 as precursor, has been reported for the synthesis of the py analog. 3 Compound 6 however contains four HCl molecules of crystallization, which very likely protonate the uncoordinated terminus of each pyz ligand.…”
