Occult Elevation of CK as a Manifestation of Rhabdomyolysis in the Elderly

Abstract: Elevation of CK with few other clinical features of rhabdomyolysis is common in admissions to a geriatric service. It is due to complete immobilization resulting from acute illness. Renal failure is mild and reversible, and the prognosis for recovery is excellent.

“…More recent studies already examine long lie independent of the factors of age, cause, and/or lying time [ 21 , 24 , 29 , 31 , 33 , 34 ], but it now needs studies with a larger number of cases in a prospective and longitudinal design. In addition, there is an increasing demand to understand how people experience long lies psychologically and social, as previous studies have mainly focused on the acute and long-term physical consequences [ 7 11 , 20 22 , 24 , 26 – 31 , 33 , 38 , 39 , 41 ]. This requires qualitative studies that are methodologically credible and explicitly ask about the psychological and social aspects of the experience.…”

“…A severe consequence of falling is when an individual lies dormant on the floor unaccompanied for a longer time (Fleming and Brayne, 2008). This brings serious consequences like hypothermia, pneumonia, pressure sores, rhabdomyolysis, and dehydration (Wild et al, 1981;Marcus et al, 1992). There are various categorized solutions for detecting falls in the elderly, including Non-Wearable Systems (NWS), Wearable Systems (WS), and fusion or hybrid systems (FS) (Chaccour et al, 2017).…”

“…1,2 According to Marcus et al, the incidence of rhabdomyolysis in hospitalized elderly patients was 0.8%. 3 A number of conditions cause rhabdomyolysis. Crushrelated injuries after natural disasters or man-made catastrophes can lead to rhabdomyolysis.…”
