Occurrence of aflatoxins in processed chili pepper sold in Myanmar

Abstract: A limited surveillance of aflatoxins (AFs) contamination was conducted with ten samples of processed chili pepper (CP) retailed in commercial market in Myanmar during 2017. All samples were dried and ground for consumption. The concentrations of major AFs, aflatoxin B 1 (AFB 1), aflatoxin B 2 (AFB 2), aflatoxin G 1 (AFG 1), and aflatoxin G 2 (AFG 2), in these samples were quantitatively analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography-fluorescence (HPLC-FL) detection after immunoaffinity column purification.… Show more

“…[ 166 ] Aflatoxins are primarily composed of aflatoxin G1 (AFG1), aflatoxin B2 (AFB2) and aflatoxin B1 (AFB1). [ 167 ] Aflatoxin B1 is the most harmful contributor among these because of its high toxic nature and strong magnetic fields. For these particular reasons it is characterized as a group 1 carcinogen by the international agency for research on cancer.…”

“…Unfortunately, there are no publications about AFB1 in Laos. However, the toxin has been found in food from all neighboring countries, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, and China [47][48][49][50]. It seems, therefore, reasonable to assume that AFB1 is present in Laos as well.…”
