Occurrence of anterior st depression in inferior myocardial infarction and relation to clinical outcome

Abstract: Summary:In 229 patients admitted to the coronary care unit (CCU) at Sahlgren's Hospital developing inferior myocardial infarction, and with no previous myocardial infarction, the clinical outcome was related to the presence of ST-segment depression in 16 anterior chest leads. In all, 64% had anterior ST-segment depression. These patients differed from those not having ST depression in several aspects. They had larger infarcts, as assessed by serum enzyme activity and ECG recording. They were more prone to cong… Show more

“…2 In a study by Herlitz and colleague 64% of participants had anterior ST depression. 9 Our finding of positive correlation of ST depression in anterior leads with sum of ST elevation in inferior leads was similar to that of Herlitz and colleagues who reported those with anterior ST depression had greater mean ST elevation in inferior leads (II, III, aVF). 9 Khalil and colleagues also found mean ST segment elevation significantly higher in those with precordial ST depression.…”

“…As a result, patients with PSTD are proned to short term and long term complications compare to patients without PSTD. Thus, the presence of PSTD defines a high risk subset of patients with inferior MI due to a higher incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) 3,[5][6][7] .…”

“…STEMI with reciprocal STSD are associated with poorer in hospital and long term prognosis, and even higher mortality compared to those without reciprocal STSD. 13,14,15,16,17 Stevenson et al, tried to prove that reciprocal STSD in STEMI patients receiving fibrinolytic are associated with poorer prognosis. Buller et al, stated that resolution in reciprocal STSD soon after primary PCI turned out to be a simple prognostic parameter.…”
