Occurrence of Gastrointestinal Parasites in Small Ruminants in the Central Part of Myanmar

Abstract: Gastrointestinal parasite infection in small ruminants remains one of the major economic losses caused by reduced productivity. A total of 380 faecal samples were taken from 280 sheeps in Magway and Pwintbyu Townships and 100 goats in Natmauk Township, Myanmar. Faecal flotation and sedimentation methods were carried out to detect the presence of parasitic infections. Faecal egg and oocyst counts were carried out using the McMaster technique. The overall occurrence of gastrointestinal parasites in small ruminan… Show more

“…The intermediate host of the Moniezia spp. is pasture mites, exposure of the ruminants to soil and grass will increase the chances of infection and the factors responsible for variations in the prevalence of different parasitic diseases might be the different climate and immune status of the individual animal (Zainalabidin et al, 2019;Win et al, 2020) . According to Moniezia spp.…”

“…Тому більшість авторів вказують на те, що через високу вартість новітніх методів діагностики, найбільш обґрунтованими і маловитратними є методи копроскопічної діагностики. Застосовуючи такі методи, як біологічний матеріал використовують фекалії тварин, які досліджують з метою виявлення паразитичних яєць, личинок та фрагментів самих гельмінтів [16][17][18]. Існує кілька методів і їхніх модифікацій, які зареєстровані і стандартизовані.…”

“…The protozoan Entamoeba spp. are critical zoonotic parasites that infect both animals and humans (Feng et al., 2018 ; Tachibana et al., 2013 , 2007 ; Win et al., 2020 ), and are transmitted among hosts through the ingestion of cysts in contaminated food, water or faeces (Matsubayashi et al., 2018 ). Major pathological illnesses caused by Entamoeba spp.…”

“…(Shrestha et al., 2018 ). However, such microscopic diagnostics are less effective because of a lack of sensitivity and specificity (Win et al., 2020 ). It is difficult and challenging for positive identification because of similar morphological characters among Entamoeba spp.…”
