“…These taxa all have a native distribution in the Indo‐Pacific region, including the Red Sea, and were often considered as Lessepsian immigrants (Bariche, 2010, 2012; Gökoglu et al ., 2003; Gurlek et al ., 2019; Salameh et al ., 2012; Tsadok et al ., 2015). However, other pathways have been also proposed, such as aquarium release and shipping, taking into account the absence of records from Mediterranean Egypt and isolated records held far from the Suez Canal (Capapè et al ., 2018; Erguden et al ., 2016; Evans et al ., 2015, 2016; Giovos et al ., 2020; Golani et al ., 2010; Saad et al ., 2018; Zenetos et al ., 2016). Although also in the present case there are no certainties regarding a potential pathway of arrival, which may involve Lessepsian spreading, shipping or aquarium release, or a combination of these, the areas between the Red Sea and the Egyptian locations where the records occurred suggests that all these species most likely entered the Mediterranean Sea unaided via the Suez Canal.…”
