Occurrence Rate of Cyclops Lesion After Anatomic Double-Bundle ACL Reconstruction: Comparison Between Remnant Tissue Preservation and Resection Methods

Abstract: Background: The occurrence rate of cyclops lesion after anatomic double-bundle anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction with remnant tissue preservation remains unclear. Hypothesis: The study hypotheses were as follows: (1) the occurrence rate of cyclops lesion will be comparable between the remnant-preserving and remnant-resecting ACL reconstruction methods, and (2) there will be no significant differences in clinical outcomes between the remnant-preserving and remnant-resecting procedures. Methods: Th… Show more

“…Knowledge about the risk factors for symptomatic cyclops lesions may help prevent their occurrence and reduce the need for second-look arthroscopy [13]. Currently discussed factors include female sex [13], decreased range of motion (ROM) prior to or after surgery [22,32], remnant preservation [14], inappropriate surgical technique [5] and sizes of notch respectively the graft itself [7,12]. Additionally, different graft choices or the number of graft bundles are under discussion [32].…”
