“…In addition, previous work demonstrated a role for the rdl (GABA) receptor in memory formation (Liu et al, 2007), and we found this receptor is expressed strongly in both the KCs and V2 MBONs. Nicotinic AchR calcium currents and fast excitatory synaptic transmission are known to be modulated in Drosophila and honeybees by octopamine and dopamine signaling (Dupuis et al, 2012; Leyton et al, 2014) but determining the expression of specific nAchR subunits has been difficult. Here, we observed a diverse range of subunits expressed in different MB neurons.…”

“…Octopamine is a vital regulatory biogenic amine in invertebrates and acts through metabotropic octopamine G-protein-coupled receptors (Beggs et al, 2011;Evans and Maqueira, 2005). It has been demonstrated that the activation of the octopamine receptors lead to the modification of proteins that can serve as targets for chemical insecticides (Leyton et al, 2014;Reale et al, 1986;Vehovszky et al, 2004Vehovszky et al, , 2005. In experiments performed on mosquitoes, positive synergistic effects have been demonstrated between the activators of the octopamine receptors (formamidines) and different insecticide groups (pyrethroids, neonicotinoids, organophosphorus and insect growth regulators) (Ahmed and Matsumura, 2012;Vogel, 2015, 2016).…”

“…As previously reported [93, 94]. In brief, fly brains were dissected out of the animals at pupal stage P9, in dissecting solution (DS), consisting of 6.85 mM NaCl, 0.27 mM KCl, 0.009 mM Na2HPO4, 0.001 mM KH2PO4, 0.2772 mM HEPES, pH 7.4.…”
