“…19,35 Moreover, in addition to its low 500 ppm concentration and high biocompatibility, the PVP-I system has the following innovative advantages over MPDS and HP systems: no reports of bacterial resistance resulting from genetic changes, 36,37 no increase in antibacterial resistance because of the absence of plasmid-mediated transfer, 38 no effect on indigenous bacteria, 39 and no ocular damage because of inadequate or failed neutralization of the solution. In in vivo studies evaluating the effect of PVP-I system on ocular surface, Cho et al 22 reported that the use of the PVP-I system for rigid lenses for patients with myopia (aged 6-10 years old) did not increase corneal staining or subjective symptoms compared with before wearing orthokeratology lenses. Tan et al investigated the effects of the PVP-I system for SCL wearers (aged 18-60 years) on ocular surface and reported that corneal staining significantly decreased when using the PVP-I system compared with habitual disinfecting solutions.…”

“…20 Kobayashi et al conducted a study to assess the efficacy of eight types of MPDSs (PHMB or Polyquad based), HP systems (Concept One-Step and AOSEPT), and the PVP-I system (Bioclen FR) against trophozoites, 1-week-old cysts, and 2-week-old cysts of A. castellanii (ATCC 50514 and ATCC 50370 strains). For ATCC 50514 strain, the PVP-I system showed Frequency of contaminated cases by gramnegative bacteria PVP-I system.MPDS or HP system Cho et al 22 Corneal staining Conjunctival injection Follicles lower eyelid Subjective symptom PVP-I system cleadew GP Corneal staining and subjective symptoms were not recognized as significant changes after wearing orthokeratology lenses Conjunctival injection and follicles in lower tarsal conjunctiva were reduced significantly PVP-I, povidone-iodine; HP, hydrogen peroxide; MPDS, multipurpose disinfecting solution; SCL, soft contact lens; PHMB, polyhexamethylene biguanide.…”
