Oestrogen-Like and Anxiolytic Properties of Pueraria phaseoloides Extracts Onovariectomized Wistar Rats

Abstract: Studies carried out on leguminous plants of the genus Pueraria showed that some species of this genus are endowed with oestrogenic properties and are able to relieve some menopausal symptoms. The aim of thiswork was to assess the potential health benefit of Pueraria phaseoloides in ovariectomized rats, an experimental model of menopause. Ovariectomized Wistar rats were treated for 3-days with aqueous (AE) and dichloromethane/methanol (DCM/MeOH) extracts of Pueraria phaseoloides, following the 14-days interval … Show more

“…Isoflavones are being used for the alternative' natural' management of menopausal symptoms, which are analogs of 17-estradiol and can bind both estrogen receptors  (ER) and  (ER) [7]. One of the plantderived isoflavones was isolated from non-soy Tropical kudzu or Tunggak bean, Pueraria phaseoloides which compounds estrogenic properties, such as miroestrol, puerarin, deoxymireostrol, kwakhurin, and among coumestrol class [5].…”

“…Isoflavones have already been isolated from Pueraria species which are not soy. The genus of Pueraria is a structural analog of estrogen 17-estradiol in the human body that is useful for alternative therapy to treat menopausal symptoms [4,7]. Tropical kudzu or Tunggak bean, Pueraria phaseoloides was used in Chinese herbal medicine that traced back to century-old.…”
