The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between classroom teachers' commitment to their profession and professional attitudes, as well as the mediating role that self-efficacy belief plays in this relationship. The relational screening model was chosen as the method in the research. The study group of the research consists of a total of 235 classroom teachers, 188 of whom are female and 47 male, working in various primary schools in Turkey. In the research, attitude towards the teaching profession, dedication to the teaching profession, and teacher self-efficacy belief scales were used as data collection tools. Data were analyzed by correlation and structural equation model analysis. The analyzes show that there are positive and moderately significant relationships between teacher self-efficacy belief and attitude towards the teaching profession, and between commitment to the teaching profession and teacher self-efficacy belief. In addition, the results reveal that there is a highly significant positive relationship between commitment to the teaching profession and attitude towards the teaching profession. On the other hand, the Z value calculated according to the Sobel test equation was found to be 4.64 and it was concluded that self-efficacy belief partially mediated the relationship between professional attitude and commitment to the profession. In order to increase the validity of the significance levels of direct and indirect effects, bootstrapping was performed and the mediating role of self-efficacy belief was supported in the relationship between professional attitude and commitment to the profession.

Araştırmada, devlet ve özel okullarda görev yapan müzik öğretmenin iş doyum ve müzik öğretmenliği mesleğine yönelik tutum düzeyleri karşılaştırmalı olarak incelenmiştir. Bu amaçla Türkiye’nin gelişmişlik endeksine göre belirlenmiş olan 21 ilden 606’sı devlet 213’ü özel okullarda olmak üzere 819 müzik öğretmenine Minnesota İş Doyum Ölçeği (MİDÖ) ve Müzik Öğretmenliği Mesleği Tutum Ölçeği (MÖMTÖ) uygulanmıştır. Müzik öğretmenlerinin iş doyum ve tutum düzeylerini belirlemek için MÖMTÖ ve MİDÖ’ye vermiş oldukları yanıtların standart sapma ve aritmetik ortalamaları hesaplanmış, kişisel değişkenlere göre hangi okul türünün hangi grubunda farklılaşmanın görüldüğünü belirlemek içinse T – Testi ve Two Way ANOVA analizleri yapılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre; iş doyumunun devlet okullarında görev yapan müzik öğretmenleri lehine, tutumun ise MÖMTÖ’nün meslek gelişimi ve ilgi boyutunun özel okullarda, mesleğe verilen önem boyutunda ise devlet okullarında görevli müzik öğretmenleri lehine farklılaştığı tespit edilmiştir. Devlet okullarındaki genç yaştaki müzik öğretmenlerinin lehine farklılaşma olduğu görülürken, iş doyumu ve genel tutum arasındaki ilişinin orta düzeyde olduğu sonuçlarına ulaşılmıştır.

Investigating High School Students' Perceptions of ‘Inspiring Foreign Language Teacher’

The purpose of this study is to examine high school students' perceptions of the concept of inspiring foreign language teacher. Fifty-eight students studying at two different high schools within the Ministry of National Education in Nevşehir province participated in the study, which was designed with the phenomenological approach, one of the qualitative research methods. Data were collected using a semi-structured interview form and subjected to content analysis. In the coding done separately by the researchers, the agreement rate among the coders was calculated as 0.94. Research findings show that students mostly consider the concept of inspiring teacher in terms of teacher-student relations, followed by personal attributes, professional competencies and attitude towards the profession. Foreign language teachers, whom the participants consider inspiring, come to the fore firstly in terms of their professional competencies, then their personal attributes, teacher-student relations and attitudes towards the profession. The participants also stated that the foreign language teachers they consider inspiring had some impact on their language learning, personal and educational lives. The research findings were discussed in relation to the literature and suggestions were made to teacher educators, curriculum developers and researchers working on the subject.
