Oil Products Consumption and Economic Growth in Cameroon Households: An Assessment Using Ardl Cointegration and Granger Causality Analysis

Abstract: This study identifies the factors accountable for the historical growth trends in kerosene and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) consumption in Cameroon households, thereby quantifying their short-and long-run effects for the period 1994-2014. ARDL bound test and Granger-causality following Toda-Yamamoto procedure under an augmented VAR framework are estimated. Empirical results validate the presence of a long-run equilibrium relationship on one hand between kerosene consumption, prices, income, and urbanization; … Show more

“…In a co-integration test, all the series must be integrated in the same order, but the results of our KPSS tests of stationarity show that one of the series of data is integrated at 1(0) and others at 1(1). To avoid spurious co-integration results, Pesaran et al’s ARDL model that uses a bound test approach to co-integration was used to verify the short- and long-run relationship among the time-series data [ 43 ]. Model 1 in Table 4 presents the results of the ARDL.…”

“… Data collected is useful for researching the causal links between climatic parameters of the site and those of the indoor environment of buildings [ 2 , 3 ]. Engineers and researchers in the field of energy, environment and civil engineering can benefit from the data as it can be used to predict energy consumption in residential buildings.…”

“…Furthermore, Sapnken et al (2020) studied the effect of refined crude oil products on the economic growth of Cameroon from 1994 till 2014 by applying ARDL bounds and Granger causality tests. The result indicated the attendance of cointegration connection with prices, income and urbanization.…”
