Oil Recovery Optimization by Immiscible WAG in Offshore Mature Field: Dulang Case Study

Abstract: Dulang oilfield is a multistacked sandstone reservoir offshore Peninsular Malaysia with 19 years of production history. Water injection was implemented to supplement the partial water drive. To date, the field recovery factor is approximately 20%, prompting initiatives to increase the recovery. Based on encouraging results from pilot test and simulation studies, immiscible WAG (IWAG) injection was chosen as the recovery strategy in the recently concluded conceptual field redevelopment study. “…• The decline rate prior to WAG was about 55% and after a year since the commencement of WAG the decline rate dropped to below 25% (Choudhary et al 2011). • Laboratory displacement study indicated an improvement in displacement efficiency by 14.5% over water flood in the target sand (Ramachandran et al 2010). • Oil production from pilot wells was improved after initialization of WAG with a decline in water cut (Ramachandran et al 2010).…”

“…Linear regression is a widely useful statistical learning method for predicting a quantitative response. Moreover, it serves as a good jumping-off point for newer approaches as many fancy Table 1 Fields used during this research study (Christensen et al 2001;Ramachandran et al 2010;Sanchez 1999 statistical learning approaches can be seen as generalizations or extension of linear regression (James et al 2015).…”

“…In the EOR method, various techniques are employed for the oil recovery. One of the most promising methods for incremental oil recovery is known as alkaline-surfactant-polymer (ASP) injection method [3][4][5]. For practical oilfield application, mixture of these materials is injected into the reservoir to increase the effectiveness of crude oil recovery by improving mobility ratio and increasing capillary number [6].…”
