Oleanolic acid rejuvenates testicular function through attenuating germ cell DNA damage and apoptosis via deactivation of NF-κB, p53 and p38 signalling pathways

Abstract: Oleanolic acid effectively rejuvenates testicular function via attenuating germ cell DNA damage and apoptosis through deactivation of NF-κB, p53 and p38 signalling pathways.

“…However, extensive DNA damage results in activation of the cell death mechanisms such as apoptosis and necrosis [ 48 ]. Previous studies show that ROS and NF-κB signaling mechanisms are involved in DNA damage [ 27 , 49 , 50 ]. Our study shows that fluoride induces nuclear DNA fragmentation in a time- and dose- dependent manner.…”

“…Nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) signaling plays an important role in DNA damage response and apoptosis in diverse cell type [ 23 27 ]. Moreover, fluoride promotes expression of NF-κB pathway genes and activation of the NF-κB signaling pathway [ 28 30 ].…”

“…Djeziri et al [20] reported that oleanolic acid exerts protective effects on obesity, including a decrease in body and adipose tissue weight and inflammatory cytokine production. In the reproductive experimental field, Zhao et al [32] showed that oleanolic acid effectively rejuvenated testicular function by reducing DNA damage, apoptosis, and inflammatory cytokine production, indicating a potential for the prevention of aging-related testicular dysfunction. On the other hand, as OleaVita contains many other components, such as oleuropein and polyphenolic compounds, further studies are necessary warranted to understand the exacts effect of OleaVita.…”
