Oleaster Oil Positively Modulates Plasma Lipids in Humans

Abstract: The olive tree had been domesticated during the early Neolithic in the Near East, and more than 1000 different cultivars have been identified to date. However, examples of wild olive trees (Olea europaea oleaster) can still be found in the Mediterranean basin. Evidence of oleaster use for oil production can be found in historical and sacred texts, such as the Odyssey, the Holey Koran, and the Holey Bible. While the nutritional and healthful properties of olive oil are actively being explored, there are no data… Show more

“…Fatty acids, including saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, seem to be the responsible constituents. [54] Side effects and toxicity Long history of E. angustifolia fruit consumption as a food ingredient or edible crop in various countries confirmed its safety. Furthermore, 7-week consumption of aqueous extract of the fruits in 40 patients was tolerable and without any reported adverse effects.…”

“…Olive oil is/was the primary fat source of the traditional Mediterranean diet1 and differs significantly in composition from dietary lipids that are consumed by other populations 2. From a commercial viewpoint, it needs to be underlined that there is considerable difference between ‘olive oil’ and ‘extra virgin olive oil’.…”

“…It can against the wind and sand, resistance to the saline-alkali soil and barren soil. Many researches have proved that Elaeagnus angustifolia L. have anti-microbial effects (Khan et al, 2016;Okmen & Turkcan, 2013a, 2013b, antioxidative effects (Farzaei et al, 2016;Yalcin & Sogut, 2014), anti-inflammatory activity (Beigom et al, 2010), wound healing activity (Mehrabani et al, 2012), anti-arthritic effect (Nikniaz, Ostadrahimi, Mahdavi, Ebrahimi, & Nikniaz, 2014;Talaei-Khozani et al, 2011), and cardiovascular effects (Belarbi et al, 2011;Wang, Qu, Ma, Sun, & Wang, 2015).…”
