Olive Waste Valorization Through TGA-MS Gasification: A Diatomaceous Earth Effect

Abstract: The effect of diatomaceous earth on gasification of olive pomace and olive stone was studied by thermogravimetric analysis with mass spectrometry (TGA-MS). Additionally, gas emissions, the H2/CO ratio, and gasification reactivity were evaluated. First, a preliminary study of the effect of particle size on olive waste gasification was performed to select the most appropriate from a technical and industrial point of view. With olive pomace, the larger the particle size, the lower H2/CO and reactivity. However, w… Show more

“…Gasification technology is one of the rapidly developing methods for treating plastic waste, and it involves the recovery of chemical raw materials and energy. Generally speaking, gasification is a process of converting low-grade waste into high-calorific value syngas, with primary products including carbon monoxide, hydrogen, methane, and carbon dioxide. Syngas yield, component, and energy recovery depend on several factors, such as raw material type, gasification temperature, gasification agent, loading rate, equivalence ratio, and so on. According to certain studies, increasing the temperature can facilitate thermochemical conversion, leading to a higher yield of syngas and greater energy recovery. …”

“…TGA appears in the literature as an effective and inexpensive alternative to setting some working parameters for a gasification process [15][16][17]. This process, combined with a gas analysis system, may supply the desired information to understand the small-scale phenomena inside the gasification reactor.…”
