“…Closer spacing of sprouted seeds which increased number of plants m -2 with early establishment of seedlings due to avoidance of root injury and transplantation shock coupled with higher root growth and activity and quicker tiller initiation leading to longer tillering period in direct sown sprouted seeds might be the reason for higher number of tillers m -2 than conventional method. These are in line with the findings of Manjunatha et al, (2009), Dange et al, (2014), Rana et al, (2014) and Kumari and sudheer. (2015).…”
