On physical limit of wireless digital transmission from radio wave propagation perspective

Abstract: Under a time‐invariant condition with thermal noise, the physical limit of digital transmission ability is governed by Shannon's channel capacity. However, in this formula, it does not contain factors on radio wave propagation environments. In other words, for the ultimate information transmission, a sufficiently long time for the coding and signal processing is expected. However, since wave propagation prevents its premise, there is another physical limit for digital transmission in a different perspective wi… Show more

“…In telecontrol systems, reception times τ Rx,k and transmission times τ Tx,k , the variation with respect to time is due to the fact that its duration depends on the increase in technological infrastructure, seasonal or hourly factors, cyclic factors, irregular factors [22], and communications protocols used for the exchange of information [23]. The reception time τ Rx,k ∈ + is a period of time in which information is sent from Client A to the telecontrol server in an interval k ∈ Z + .…”

“…Since human society entered the age of electrification, electrical energy has been transmitted by wires, and the use of wires to transmit electrical energy is subject to many restrictions [1][2][3]. For example, in special industrial environments such as mines and oil extraction, the use of wires for power supply has deficiencies such as poor flexibility, easy sparking, and exposed transmission lines, which may cause safety accidents such as explosions [4][5][6][7][8][9].…”

“…Radio communications since its advent in the early nineteenth century has been the mainstream mode of short and long distance connectivity but its capacity is now approaching the critical limits [1] [2] in the new era of bigdata, internet of things (IoT) and growing information burst between multiple devices and platforms. The radio frequency spectrum is consistently congested while communication engineers and system architects usually have to work around signal interference problems especially in collocated and multi-node systems.…”
