Abstract: In this article we highlight some aspects of Foucault's work that are useful for analyzing the processes of subjective production and relations of power marked by gender, understood as dispositifs. Feminist theories and practices offer fundamental resources both for the development of the Foucauldian perspective itself, and for the analysis and transformation of power relations. In relation to the tension between power and freedom, we highlight the importance of two issues: first, the intermediate space betwee… Show more

“…Since power is understood to be an ongoing, relational element of human subjectivation, so too can freedom be perceived as an ongoing process inextricably linked to our everyday existence (Amigot & Pujal, 2009;Crane et al, 2008;Foucault, 1987). This is very different from a liberal approach to freedom, which we are more familiar with, where human beings require 'freeing from' one state of being in preference for another (Berlin, 1969).…”

Gender perspectives have been at the forefront in thinking about the role of body politics in Russian regime legitimation.…”

“…Health institutions are constituted through the relations of power operating in their particular contexts (Foucault, 2002;Skeggs, 1997). Through dominant discourses, such as sameness and clinical neutrality, power normalises certain actions and certain health practices as acceptable and guides people to act accordingly (Amigot & Pujal, 2009;Foucault, 1991Foucault, , 1995Foucault & Gordon, 1980). However, normalised health service practices ignore individual needs (Foucault, 2004;Levesque & Li, 2014) and can negatively shape patient experience (Foucault & Gordon, 1980;Scott, 1991).…”
