Objective: In residency education, the educational environment interacts with each component of the training. This study is intended to assess the perceptions of family medicine residents about the educational and working environments from their point of view and to reveal their problems and expectations. Methods: In this descriptive and cross-sectional study, nationwide 434 family medicine residents' opinions about their educational environment were collected using a survey prepared by the researchers. Results:The mean age of the residents was 29.26±4.31 years. Women constituted 70.5% (n=306) of participants and 53.7% (n=233) chose family medicine career due to its working conditions. The rate of those who stated that there were no educational family health centers was 57.1% (n=248). More than half (67.5%; n=293) were satisfied with the department that they are getting education. Institutional assessment score (IAS) of those who chose family medicine for working conditions and obligations was lower than the participants who chose it because of their love and interest (p<0.001). The satisfaction score for the residency education (SSRE) was higher for those aged 36 and over than the age group 24-29 (p=0.008) and the age group 30-35 (p=0.005). Conclusions: Although more than three quarters of the participants stated that activities related to training such as articles and seminar hours were sufficient, approximately one third stated that theoretical and practical education was not sufficient. Another important result was that less than half of the residents believed that when they completed their education, they would be competent to work in all conditions.

The first COVID-19 case in our country was detected on 11 March 2020. Failure to develop a vaccine against COVID-19 disease and the situation in the world required both hospitals and health policymakers to take measures for the possible continuity of the disease. 1 COVID-19 pandemic threatens the health systems of many countries. 2 Of course, healthcare professionals are the most affected by this pandemic. During this period, they faced a threat that had not been encountered before and had to manage a difficult situation both physically and psychologically. 3 Research into the psychological effects of infectious disease outbreaks such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and pandemic flu (H1N1) shows consistent patterns of reactions and covers the experiences of the staff in work, those in quarantine and those returning to work from time away sick. 4,5 In the case of a pandemic, the staff do not only deal with the increased workload created by the outbreak. At the same time, fear of transmission for themselves and their families, new and frequently changing protocols, working with personal protective equipment, caring for very sick and rapidly deteriorating patients, and dealing with colleagues who are sick are among the other problems.During this period, the employees in all health institutions and organisations, both in the hospitals and primary care, took part in the pandemic management and continue to do so. When the literature is reviewed, the importance of strong primary care and family physicians in the management of pandemics is emphasised in the publications. It is stated that the primary care must be included in the planning and action stages in health-related emergency and risk management. 6,7 Front-line primary care leaders, practitioners and researchers of primary care from the South Asia Region have issued a solidarity statement articulating the role of primary care physicians during the pandemic. Interventional Competency Goals Self-evaluations from the Perspective of Family Medicine Residents for Emergency Medicine Rotation

Backround: The aim of this study is to evaluate how competent family medicine residents see themselves in the interventional competency goals targeted in emergency medicine rotation and the factors associated with their competency levels. Methods: The study is a methodological and cross-sectional study carried out between 01 May-31 October 2022. 138 family medicine residents who completed their emergency medicine rotation and agreed to participate in the study were included in the study. In the questionnaire used to collect data in the study, there were the Emergency Medicine Rotation Interventional Competence Scale (EMRICS) developed by the researchers based on the family medicine specialty training curriculum and sociodemographic characteristics. Results: The mean ages of the study group 29.71±4.27 (Mean±SD) years, and 60.10% (n:83) were women. The mean scores obtained from the scale in the study group were 59.86±11.72 (Mean±SD). While the interventional competence in which family physician residents had the highest proficiency was arterial blood gas with 97.80% (n:135), the lowest was tracheostomy with 15.20% (n:21). Evaluation of BLS (p:0.037), intubation (p:0.028), tracheostomy (p:0.034), trauma patient assessment (p:0.004) in the study group who applied five or more applications received higher EMRICS than those who did not apply at all. Conclusion: In order to achieve the desired competence in interventional competency goals, it is recommended to be repeated at least 5 times.
