On the Behaviour of General-Purpose Applications on Cloud Storages

Abstract: Abstract. Managing data over cloud infrastructures raises novel challenges with respect to existing and well studied approaches such as ACID and long running transactions. One of the main requirements is to provide availability and partition tolerance in a scenario with replicas and distributed control. This comes at the price of a weaker consistency, usually called eventual consistency. These weak memory models have proved to be suitable in a number of scenarios, such as the analysis of large data with Map-Re… Show more

“…Nevertheless, a new result (Proposition 5) allows us to restrict the comparison of the consistency level of two stores just to their initial states. This also shows that the new formalisation conservatively extends the presentation in [6], in which consistency levels are determined by the initial states of the stores. 2.…”

“…The operational characterisation given in [6], although sufficient for illustrating how stores work, strongly binds the definition of a store to its current state. We now give a more abstract characterisation that differentiates a store from its states.…”

“…[23][24][25] However, with the application of IoT in O2O commerce, mixed usage of structured databases together with unstructured data and sometimes distributed files systems has brought more challenges to researchers. 26 In Dede et al, 27 MongoDB is deployed with Hadoop to improve the efficiency, scalability, and tolerance of the systems, merging structured databases with distributed files. In Jiang et al, 2 rational databases, NoSQL databases, and Hadoop are used together to handle structured and unstructured information.…”
