On the biology, biogeography, and taxonomy ofArachnitisPhil. nom. cons.(Corsiaceae)in respect to a new record from Bolivia

Abstract: A new locality of Arachnitis uniflora from a forest in the central Andes of Bolivia is described. Thus, the species, hitherto well known only from Patagonia, shows a remarkable disjunction probably caused by climatic changes at least 10−11 000 years BP. The different habitat conditions of the two populations are characterised. A first complete description, including micromorphological characters, of Bolivian specimens is given. A. uniflora has protandric bisexual flowers which show a considerable growth during… Show more

“…Zhang, R.M.K. Saunders & C.M Hu) (Van Royen 1972;Ibisch 1996;Zhang and Saunders 1999;Jones and Gray 2008). The family has closed sheathed leaves, single zygomorphic terminal flowers, a single large labellum with five long tepals (total of six), extrose anthers, and an inferior ovary (Rudall and Eastman 2002;Jones and Gray 2008).…”

“…Clumped root/rhizome systems also occur in achlorophyllous orchids (e.g. McKendrick et al ., 2002) and Corsiaceae (Minoletti, 1986; Ibisch, Neinhuis & Rojas, 1996). In fact, Triuridaceae has been the only one of the families containing several mycoheterotrophic species (Leake, 1994) that did not include a representative with root abbreviation.…”
