On the Bit Error Probability of OFDM and FBMC-OQAM Systems in Rayleigh and Rician Multipath Fading Channels

Abstract: Filter bank multicarrier with offset quadrature amplitude modulation (FBMC-OQAM) is considered an alternative to conventional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) to meet the various requirements proposed by future communication networks. Among the different perspectives on the merits of FBMC-OQAM and OFDM, a straightforward metric is the bit error probability (BEP). This paper presents a general analytical framework for BEP evaluation that is applicable to FBMC-OQAM and OFDM systems in both Rayle… Show more

“…Li et al 5 framed an analytical method for the evaluation of bit error parameters that are applied to FBMC/OQAM systems for Rican multipath and Rayleigh fading channels. The suggested work derived the bit error probability expressions for square QAM signals and Gray‐coded pulse amplitude modulation.…”

“…The filter bank multicarrier/offset quadrature-amplitude (FBMC/OQAM) modulation technology is designed with a proper prototype filter, which eliminates the need to introduce CP and guard intervals in the system. In addition, FBMC has the advantages of robustness against narrowband interference and lower sidelobes, as a non-CP-OFDM system, FBMC/OQAM achieves the high spectral efficiency [4][5][6][7][8]. And with the development of digital filtering technology, FBMC/OQAM will play a huge role in the next generation communication system.…”
