On the design of Ag–morin nanocomposite to modify calcium alginate gel: framing out a novel sodium ion trap

Abstract: The present work describes the design of a Ag-morin nanocomposite and its subsequent incorporation in calcium alginate gels which have the unique property to uptake and release sodium ions. The nanocomposite reported here is the first of its kind and is capable of modifying the calcium alginate gels both physically and chemically. The corrugated surface morphology of calcium alginate becomes modified and becomes smoother upon incorporation of the nanocomposite. Rheological studies reveal an increased viscoelas… Show more

“…It possesses multiple pharmacological applications, including anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-diabetic activities (Ghosh et al, 2016;Hwang-Bo et al, 2019;Salehi et al, 2019). The synthesis of colloidal AgNPs using morin through the liquid-phase route was reported previously (Sarkar & Sen, 2015;Terenteva et al, 2015). However, the major limitations of the liquidphase procedure are the low AgNPs yield and the use of a large amount of solvents (water and alcohols) during the preparation step.…”

“…[ 1 ] Silver is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial for controlling a wide range of bacterial, fungal, and viral pathogens. [ 4 ] This manuscript will concentrate on the very newest of these dressings, Calgigraf Silver (Ag) foam with the following composition silver alginate, calcium alginate, and maltodextrin.…”
