Abstract:This paper presents a prestressed sliding wedge damper as an effective alternative for the reduction of vibration amplitudes. Due to the system's non-smooth and non-linear characteristics, it offers advantages over conventional linear dampers, e.g an amplitude adaptive behavior. First, the equations of motion which describe the system's characteristics are derived. Second, an analytical model based on a modal coordinate transformation and averaging methods is proposed. A numerical model, which uses an elasto-p… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
