On the efficiency of a venturi scrubber

Abstract: The performance of a venturi scrubber with a 1‐in. by 3‐in. throat was determined using monodispersed uranine‐methylene blue aerosols in the size range 0.8 to 3.0μm at throat velocities ranging from 109.6 ft/sec to 245 ft/sec. Separate measurements on the water separator showed that substantial aerosol removal took place in this unit, and the efficiency of the scrubber itself was calculated from these measurements plus overall efficiency measurements on the combination scrubber and separator. These results wer… Show more

“…The experimental apparatus used in this study was quite similar to that used in our previous recently published study, 3 with a few notable differences. It consisted of a venturi scrubber, followed by a cyclonic demister.…”

“…The basic calculation techniques used in the theoretical model have recently been described elsewhere; 3 and are similar in nature to the methods of Calvert 1 and of Boll, 20 The equations of particle motion and of inertial impaction were integrated numerically for specific cases, taking into account scrubber geometry. This model assumes that a state of perfect mixing exists between gas and water droplets in planes normal to the flow direction, as well as the fact that no water reaches the scrubber surfaces.…”

“…Several attempts have been made in the past to theoretically predict pressure drop across a venturi scrubber, [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] but no study has been published to develop a mathematical model for predicting pressure drop in an orifice scrubber. In this study, a two-dimensional mathematical model in cylindrical coordinates was developed to predict the pressure drop in an orifice scrubber.…”
