Single fibers were twisted to various amounts prior to tensile testing. The variations with twist in tenacity, breaking extension, modulus, and contraction or contractive stress on twisting have thus been measured. Experiments were carried out for both constanttension and constant-length twisting; subsidiary experiments show the effect of other factors. The results are compared with those of other workers; explanations of them are offered. _
