On the Measurement of the Lifetime of Hydrogen Hyperisotopes at J-PARC and JLab

Abstract

Hypernuclear hydrogen isotopes have been observed in visualizing techniques experiments in the 60's and 70's and in a few counter experiments in the 90's; very recently heavy ions collisions experiments reported the observation of 3 Λ H and of its antipartner 3 Λ H. Several of these experiments performed lifetime measurements, the values of which fall in a quite spread interval and are significantly lower than the free Λ lifetime, in apparent contrast with the few available theoretical calculations. Aiming to obtain final precise values for both 3 Λ H and 4 Λ H lifetimes, preliminary calculations are given on the feasibility of their experimental determination at two present and near future operating world facilities featuring hypernuclear physics scientific programs: J-PARC and JLab.
