Abstract:This paper investigates the nature of the post‐constrained recovery residual stress (PCRRS) observed in nickel titanium (NiTi) shape memory alloys (SMAs) subjected to constrained recovery and returned to a low temperature state while remaining constrained. After performing the thermomechanical cycling to produce the PCRRS state, four experiments were performed with different deflection profiles applied from the PCRRS state, and the changes in the residual stress was observed. All tests produced a gradual decre… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
