Abstract:The polarization vectors of lattice vibrations in anisotropic crystals of cubic structure are considered from a quantitative point of view. A new anisotropy index A = cll/(c12 +2 c4J is shown to be more adequate as a measure of anisotropy than the conventional s = = (cn -c12)/2 c4p The reason for anisotropy is discussed briefly, with special emphasis on simple metals. The approximation of assuming the lattice vibrations to be strictly longitudinal or transverse is discussedfor several properties of metals, wit… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
