“…Knapp and Phillips 1942;Comstock, Winters, and Cummings 1944;Shaklee, Knox, and Marsden 1952;Beilharz 1963;Horton and McBride 1964), an attempt is made to evaluate the effect of these in selection sehemes for quantitative characters. In this study the effects of selection in females only and in males only are compared for a character partly controlled by sex-linked genes.…”

“…The possibility of an X chromosome participation in a polygenie system cannot, however, be excluded, but the resultant effect on quantitative traits would be limited. Similarly, in the development of mammals and birds, Beilharz (1963) did not find conclusive evidence of sex linkage on reviewing 36 reports, except perhaps for the body weight of rabbits, mice and sheep. Moreover, the finding that adult males with Klinefelter's syndrome and adult girls with Turner's syndrome show correlation coefficients with their parents of the same level to those found with normal children suggests the genetic mechanisms are, for the most part, located on autosomes (Lemli and Smith, 1963;Brook et al, 1974Brook et al, , 1977.…”

“…Similarly, Cock and Morton (1963) reviewed the contradictory interpretations in the literature with respect to sex-linked and maternal effects in poultry, and suggested a diallel design for the purpose of detecting these effects. This problem was also recognized by Beilharz (1963).…”
