“…The presumptive origin of fractional or mosaic mutations induced by radiation in Drosophila has often been discussed in terms of the strandedness of the DNA molecule (Muller et al 1961;Carlson and Southin 1962;Carlson and Oster 1962;Inagaki and Nakao 1966;Matsudaira et al 1967;Munoz 1972;Fujikawa et al 1975). In the course of our recent studies with the induction of the different kinds of dumpy mutations by X-rays in Drosophila males (Inagaki et al 1974;Inagaki et al 1977), it was found that the mosaic-looking individuals for losses of the BS or y+ marker from the marked Y-chromosome were recovered with an appreciable frequency.…”
