On the Reliability Evaluation of Failure Delayed Industrial Systems

Abstract: This paper presents an analytical approach for the evaluation of multi‐user safety critical systems presenting a failure delayed behavior pattern. As a consequence of a failure event, the performance of these systems worsens progressively due to the internal fault tolerance mechanisms or the complacency of the users regarding the temporary unavailability of the services. A distinctive feature of the approach is the ability to handle stochastic models containing multiple processes with generalized distributions… Show more

“…Conventional maintenance and reliability strategies are based on corrective actions and so‐called reactive maintenance . Asset managers are not inclined to use this type of maintenance approach because of service or production downtimes, safety risks, and high costs of reactive maintenance . Undoubtedly, asset deterioration and failures could significantly affect the engineering process efficiency and are not beneficial for asset owners .…”

“…4 Asset managers are not inclined to use this type of maintenance approach because of service or production downtimes, safety risks, and high costs of reactive maintenance. 5 Undoubtedly, asset deterioration and failures could significantly affect the engineering process efficiency and are not beneficial for asset owners. 6 Hence, maintenance and reliability analysis based on reliability-centred maintenance (RCM) and lifetime distribution models is required to optimise operation and maintenance strategies.…”

“…Seyed further verified that the PLM can better fit the fault data of the drum shearer cable system to analyze the reliability of the system . Other models of reliability evaluation that consider human factors are proposed, such as Petri‐net, hidden Markov models, Markov chain Monte Carlo method, and Bayes method . However, the above method does not consider the impact of working condition difference on the reliability of NC machine tools.…”
