“…This has led to a still increasing number of new epithelial tumours reported in the lacrimal gland. Of the benign tumours, oncocytoma is most frequently reported with 10 primary cases in the lacrimal gland published to date, including three cases of primary malignant oncocytoma (Calle et al. 2006; Economou et al.…”

“…They all showed malignant histologic fi ndings: oncocytic adenocarcinoma, 1 oncocytic carcinoma, 2 and malignant oncocytoma. 2 Two of the three cases had one common feature in that the tumor had extended intracranially. Thus, a careful histopathologic review can help exclude the possibility of a malignant oncocytic lesion, in addition to which the absence of an intracranial extension in a radiologic examination is a good indicator of a benign lesion.…”

“…No reported benign oncocytomas recurred during approximately 21.2 months of followup. [2][3][4][5] The longest follow-up after complete resection without recurrence was 3.5 years in the case of a 76-year-old patient. 3 In summary, oncocytomas should be considered in the differential diagnosis of retrobulbar tumors near the lacrimal gland.…”
