Abstract:We develop a long-time, large-domain moving window atomistic framework using Molecular Dynamics (MD) to model shock wave propagation through a one-dimensional system. We implement ideas of control volume on a MD framework where a moving window follows a propagating shock. This circumvents issues such as boundary reflections and transient effects typically observed in conventional MD shock simulations. We model shock wave propagation through a one-dimensional chain of copper atoms using the Lennard-Jones, modif… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
