One phase active filter with energy storage for active power surge compensation in feed line

Abstract: Abstract:The paper presents a concept of an active filter with energy storage. This solution can be used for the compensation of momentary one phase high power loads with discontinued power consumption (e.g. spot welding machines). Apart from the typical filtering capabilities, the system's task is also the continuity of the input power from the feeder line and limiting its fluctuation. The proposed by the author's solution can produce measurable economic benefits by reducing the rated power necessary to energ… Show more

“…The non-repeatability of the shape of the recorded welding currents (e.g., the differences between the maximum values regardless of maintaining a constant welding angle) are due to phenomena occurring between electrodes (the burning out of oxides and contamination, uneven contact pressure, etc.) [16].…”

“…A graph of the waveforms produced in the analyzed time horizon is presented in Figure 10c (zoomed-in Figure 10d). Due to the step-down transformer in the structure of the used welding machine, currents are distorted by odd harmonics (especially 3, 5, 7-core saturation effect) [16]. The operation of the filter also limits their content in the line current.…”

“…This possibility can be implemented by introducing controlled inertia to the active filter action (Szromba, 2015). A similar problem, but using an additional DC-DC converter, is discussed by Sowa et al (2016).…”
