One-pot synthesis of amphiphilic reversible photoswitchable fluorescent nanoparticles and their fluorescence modulation properties

Abstract: In the present study, we report on the fabrication of novel amphiphilic reversible photoswitchable fluorescent nanoparticles by a facile one-pot miniemulsion polymerization using a biocompatible polymerizable nonionic surfactant, u-methoxy poly(ethylene oxide) undecyl a-methacrylate (PEO-R-MA-40), in which spiropyran-linked methacrylate (SPMA) and the energy level well-matched fluorescent dyes: fluorescein-based, vinylic crosslinking monomer (fluorescein-O,O-bis-propene (FBP)) were covalently incorporated into… Show more

“…Polymerization is an important method which has been previously used for fabrication of FNPs via controllable incorporation of polymerizable organic dyes into polymers. [175][176][177][178][179] A series of FNPs based on polymerizable organic dyes have been reported and showed high potential in a variety of elds. [180][181][182][183][184] The general driving force for the formation of these FNPs can be ascribed to the self-assembly of these amphiphilic copolymers in aqueous solution.…”

“…Synthesis of PEO‐R‐MA‐40 has been reported previously by other groups . Details of a critical step that have not been previously reported were described for better reproducible synthesis of this polymerizable surfactant that has a variety of applications (see Supporting Information).…”
