One‐pot synthesis of polypyrrole/AgCl composite nanotubes and their antibacterial properties

Abstract: Polypyrrole/silver chloride (PPy/AgCl) composite nanotubes have been successfully prepared via a reactive self-degrade template. By introducing ammonium peroxysulphate, AgNO 3 and pyrrole monomer into the acidic methyl orange solution in sequence, AgCl nanoparticles could be uniformly distributed into the matrix of PPy nanotubes without aggregation in the one-pot reaction. The formation mechanism, morphology and structure of the nanocomposites were studied by transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform… Show more

“…The peak at 1170 cm -1 corresponds to the inplane bending vibration of =C-H of PPy ring (Chen et al, 2003). While the peaks at 1040 cm -1 and 965 cm -1 refer to the -C-H in-plane bending and -C-C out-of-plane pyrrole ring deformations, respectively (Liu et al, 2015). The presence of these all characteristics peaks confirm the formation of PPy backbone.…”

“…Ag (Wang et al, 2010), AgCl (G et al, 2011, and Au (Du et al, 2015). The AgCl: PPy is usually reported to be synthesized by the chemical oxidation of AgNO3 using various oxidants preferably ammonium persulphate (APS) (Liu et al, 2015) and ferric chloride (FeCl3) (Yang et al, 2010). The Ag: PPy nanocomposites were used as a photocatalyst (Gu et al, 2011), the sensor for chloride estimation (Guo et al, 2009), and antibacterial activity (Liu et al, 2015).…”

“…Most of the approaches involve oxygen-containing functional groups on its surface such as C=O and C–OH 10 providing large surface area and interfacial interaction with polymer matrix. 11 Liu et al 12 carried out the synthesis of PPy/silver chloride nanotubes and studied their antimicrobial properties. Recently, a group of researchers such as Duan et al, 13 Sun and Mo, 14 Chen et al, 15 Yang et al, 16 and Bonaccorso et al 17 have successfully prepared PPy-based composites and films.…”

“…Polypyrrole is usually prepared by the oxidation of pyrrole with iron(III) chloride [11,19]. Other inorganic oxidants have also been successfully tested, such as ammonium peroxydisulfate [20][21][22] or cerium(IV) sulfate [23,24]. Currently, silver nitrate became of interest because such oxidation of pyrrole leads to PPy/silver composites [21,22,[25][26][27][28][29][30][31] (Fig.…”
