One-Step Repair in Talar Osteochondral Lesions

Abstract: One-step repair of OLTs had good clinical results that were durable over time, even though there was a slight decrease in AOFAS score at the latest follow-up. The quality of the regenerated tissue detected by MRI T2 mapping directly correlated with the clinical results.

“…Repair tissue showed comparable T2 values to hyaline cartilage 2 years and 4 years after bone marrow derived cell transplantation at the talus [170, 171]. T2 differed significantly between the superficial and deep layers 9.5 years after Mfx, detected via 7 T MRI [141].…”

“…Indeed, most of these studies underlined the benefits that the HA derivatives, either as hydrogel or solid mesh, exerted in human diseases such as venous ulcers [107],[108], decubitus ulcers [109], oral mucosal lesions [110], surgical ablation of nevi/cutaneous tumors and cicatritial outcomes [111], talar dome and knee osteochondral lesions [112],[113], and cranial bone regeneration [114]. So far, no clinical trial started to verify whether such biomaterial can be useful also to repair the infarcted myocardium.…”
