One‐step synthesis of hydrophilic graphene‐Fe3O4‐PVA composite film: Micromorphology and performance

Abstract: Multifunctional polymers have wide applications in smart materials. In this study, the multifunctional polymer (hydrophilic graphene‐Fe3O4‐PVA, GFP composite films) were synthesized by mixing with hydrophilic graphene (HG), ferrous ammonium sulfate, and ferric chloride in PVA solution through one‐pot coprecipitation method. GFP composite films were characterized by XRD, FT‐IR. Their morphology and particle size of Fe3O4 in GFP composite film were observed by TEM, SEM, and AFM. The results indicated that the mo… Show more

“…The amorphous phase, with a broad diffraction peak detected at 2θ of approximately 19.5°, was attributed to PVA. This is consistent with the results of the previous work 14 . Meanwhile, the XRD patterns of the crystalline phase showed diffraction peaks at 2θ of 30.1°, 35.6°, 43.3°, 57.3°, and 63.0°, which represent the (200), (311), (400), (422), (511), and (440) planes of Fe 3 O 4 , respectively 15 .…”

“…This phenomenon indicates the possible existence of interaction between the SiMoA and PVA matrix. The optical bandgap of neat PVA and PVA composite films is determined by the below given Tauc's relation: α h ν = B (h ν − E g ), where α , h, ν , B , and E g are absorption coefficient, Plank constant, light frequency, a constant, and optical bandgap energy, respectively. The variation of ( α h ν ) 1/2 versus h ν is plotted in Figure (b), from which the E g of the samples can be obtained.…”

“…Among those environmental friendly materials, poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) is one of the important and widely studied biodegradable polymer. As a commercially available biodegradable polymer, PVA possesses low cost, excellent optical transparency, film formation, gas barrier, and mechanical properties and is extensively applied in the fields of package, biomedicine, filters, and so on. However, high ultraviolet (UV) radiation transmittance associated with PVA is not conducive to its application such as in the UV‐protective field.…”
