“…With regard to the mafic intrusions, Root and Corfu (2012) interpreted a protolith age of 607 ± 2 obtained from U-Pb dating of titanite in a gabbro, and a similar age obtained from cores of zircons in an eclogitized dolerite. These ages are in good agreement with results (606-616 Ma) obtained from the Baltoscandian Dyke Swarms (Bingen et al, 1998;Svenningsen, 2001;Baird et al, 2014;Paulsson & Andréasson, 2002). The HP metamorphism has been dated at 475-500 Ma by U-Pb analysis of titanite in calc-silicate gneiss of the eclogite host-rock (Essex et al, 1997) and at 482 ± 1 Ma by U-Pb analysis of zircons in eclogites (Root & Corfu, 2012).…”

“…The 607 Ma age from our Vaimok metabasite sample is identical within error to the 608 ± 1 Ma zircon U-Pb age of Svenningsen (2001) from the Sarek Dyke Swarm (Sk in Figs. 1,2).…”

“…Some episodes of European rifting have progressed to continental break-up and development of a new ocean, notably the formation of the Iapetus Ocean during the Neoproterozoic (Svenningsen, 2001), and the opening of the North Atlantic from the Jurassic into the Cenozoic (Saunders et al, 2013). Such rift phases are typically associated with large volumes of magmatism, but central complexes with alkaline compositions are rare, although isolated carbonatite bodies and dyke swarms are known.…”
