Ontology-Based Partial Building Information Model Extraction

Abstract: The research and application of building information modeling (BIM) has been focused on the entire project and the complete life cycle. However, the daily routine on a construction job site has specific requirements and bears certain limitations regarding the usage of information stored in a BIM model. The limitations include scarcity of computing power and trained personnel. One of the requirements is to view a partial model instead of the original, complete model. The partial model may be defined by certain … Show more

“…S.Heni et al [6] proposed an approach based on a Neural Principal Component Analysis that express the maximum variance of data and extract the principal component from it, by calculating the correlation between words of each document, to determine the keywords that give out the fields of interest of each document content. L.Zhang et al [7] have used ontology in the extraction of a partial building information model from the original complete model. F.Harrag [8] has proposed a methodology in order to detect and extract passages or sequences of words containing relevant to information from the prophetic narrations texts.…”

“…With these semantic representations, it is easier for end users to read and comprehend a complicated data schema. An extensive number of studies based on this approach have been carried out for various use cases including ontologydriven construction information retrieval for tunnel projects [13], ontology partial BIM model extraction for building projects [14], ontology-based extraction of construction information [15] and ontology based querying over linked life cycle data spaces [16]. The last class of partial model query approaches moves a step further in terms of enhancing the ease of data extraction by providing query tools that require less effort from users.…”
