Ontology-Driven Information Extraction with OntoSyphon

Abstract: Abstract. The Semantic Web's need for machine understandable content has led researchers to attempt to automatically acquire such content from a number of sources, including the web. To date, such research has focused on "document-driven" systems that individually process a small set of documents, annotating each with respect to a given ontology. This paper introduces OntoSyphon, an alternative that strives to more fully leverage existing ontological content while scaling to extract comparatively shallow conte… Show more

“…The Cimiano et al System [15] is a pattern-based approach to categorize instances with regard to ontology. OntoSyphon [16] uses the ontology to specify web searches that identify possible semantic instances, relations, and taxonomic information. The Maedche et al system [17] is bootstrapping approach that allows for the fast creation of an ontology-based information extracting system.…”

“…Many OBIE systems only extract instances for classes and property values for properties. Such OBIE systems include PANKOW [9], [10]), SOBA [11], OntoSyphon [12], Vulcain [13], and KIM [14]. The Kylin system [15] constructs an ontology based on the structure of Wikipedia infoboxes.…”

“…In document management, researchers have studied approaches to relate specific domain knowledge in the form of concepts, objects and relations to textual documents (McDowell and Cafarella 2006;Eriksson 2007) and based on such semantic documents, some projects have studied how to create support for information management in team workflows by using domain-specific document features (Franz et al 2007;Leifler and Eriksson 2009). …”
